Finding a Way by Diane Simmons is a revealing collection of stories based around the theme of grief. I was immediately impressed by the way it divulges the effects, both short and longer term, which may overcome not only those close to a lost loved one, but also those in a wider circle of family, friends and even acquaintances. Approached from this variety of perspectives, everyday occurrences are appraised and diverse outcomes and consequences became known to me.

Written in sympathetic but never over-indulgent style, using everyday unvarnished language, the obvious sensitivity and awareness thus imparted never seemed morbid to me, however. Honesty, deep feeling and even humour make this a readable account of love and loss which resonate with and should appeal to a wide range of readers. It is as much a celebration of love and life as a proclamation of sadness when the gift of living fades.
